When you first receive your new denture, especially an upper denture as it covers the vast majority of your upper palate; it may feel a little awkward.  After a couple of weeks, you will become familiar with the feel of your denture.  While you are getting used to your denture, you may occasionally bite your tongue or lip, so care is advised.

Sunshine Coast Smile Centre will provide you with instructions on how long you should wear your denture.  Dentures are generally removed at night and placed in a glass of water to prevent them from drying out and becoming brittle, this is to also let your gums rest after they have been supporting your denture all day and during meals.

When you are missing teeth your gum contour will slowly change, therefore you will need to schedule appointments to have your denture base relined.  This means the base is reshaped so it is comfortable and secure on your gum.

Where a partial denture replaces only a few missing teeth, a full denture replaces an entire upper or lower arch, or on occasion both.  A complete denture as it is known is held in place by adhesive gel and suction.  Both complete and partial dentures should remain stable at all times.  If you notice your denture becomes loose or slips when you speak, cough or chew you should schedule an appointment with Sunshine Coast Smile Centre to have it relined.
