Why it costs you more to NOT visit our dental hygienist every 6 months

Sophie is our in-house Dental Hygienist at Sunshine Coast Smile Centre

We have previously written about why you should visit our dental hygiene professional every 6 months. However what we didn’t really go in to was the financial incentives for doing so.

In our experience many people do not avail of the opportunity to see our dental hygienist on a regular basis simply because they do not see the financial value in doing so.

As nothing is being ‘fixed’ they see the appointment as a waste of time and money.

However nothing could be further from the truth.

The fact is, put quite simply, regular 6 monthly visits to our dental hygienist can save you thousands of dollars on dental and other medical treatments in the long run.

Our professional dental hygienists are a vital cog in our patients overall preventative dentistry strategy.

About Dental Hygienists

Dental hygienists are experts in the prevention and treatment of periodontal or gum disease. This is the main cause of tooth loss in adults.

They give your mouth and teeth an extensive clean. One that you just can’t achieve through regular brushing, flossing and use of a tongue scraper.

By removing all the plaque and tartar that may be present in your mouth our dental hygienists significantly reduces your chances of suffering from gingivitis.

This is the condition when your gums become inflamed, red, swollen, tender and bleed easily.

If plaque and tartar is not properly removed from your mouth by regular brushing and flossing, it begins to spread beneath the gum-line. It also starts to destroy the gum tissue and bone.

Long-term gum infection – periodontitis – can result not just in the loss of your teeth, but according to some research studies it has also been linked with:

– Poorly controlled diabetes

– Cardiovascular disease

– High blood pressure

– Birth of pre-term, low birth-weight babies

– Increased risk of heart attack and stroke

Visiting our dental hygienist on a regular 6 monthly basis, to support your daily at home oral health care routine, can significantly reduce your chances of suffering from any of these conditions.

Which in turn can save you thousands of dollars in dental and medical treatments too.
